McLaren P11 Supercar is Sex on Wheels

Detomaso Modena A british car magazine claims to have inside information surrounding McLaren’s latest automotive offering, tentatively codenamed the ‘P11.’ This time around, it seems McLaren isn’t trying to break any records, or beat the Veyron and SSC in a battle for top speed supremacy. Instead, McLaren is seemingly taking a step downmarket! (It feels so wrong even saying that…)
The P11 is targeting Ferrari 430s and Porsche 911 GT2s. Not that this is a bad thing! Power is thought to come from an AMG sourced 6.3-liter V8, generating an expected 500 horsepower down through the rear wheels. The P11 should be quick, with an anticipated sub-4-second run to sixty and a top speed over 200 mph. It should be able to stop quickly as well thanks to carbon-ceramic brakes and a lightweight frame made from aluminum and carbon fiber.

Detomaso Modena The McLaren P11 will be the first new vehicle from the British company since they paired up with Mercedes to make the SLR. But everyone knows that McLaren’s major claim to fame is the F1 supercar, which for many years had held the record for its staggering top speed.

CAR says the renderings are fairly close to the mark for the supercar that will launch in 2010. In this blogger’s humble opinion, this is a very very good thing. Because these renderings have the potential to reverse the effects of advanced erectile dysfunction in a way that could make Viagra jealous. Plus, I haven’t seen such a sexy rear end since… well, since I woke up next to three supermodels this morning. Yep. That’s how I roll.

Suzuki SX4 Sedan 1.6 Auto launched in Malaysia

Detomaso Modena

After teasing us with the Suzuki SX4 Sedan’s impending introduction with various units placed in shopping malls around the country as part of a contest, Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn Bhd has unveiled the Suzuki SX4 Sedan yesterday. The car is a CBU unit fully imported from Japan and two variants are available, both with a 1.6 liter engine and automatic transmission.

The Nissan Latio is no longer alone in its game as a 1.6 liter B-segment sedan. The Suzuki SX4 sedan is powered by the same 1.6 liter VVT engine as its hatchback sibling. It puts out a rather sedate 102 PS at 5,600rpm and 140Nm of torque at 4,000rpm through the front wheels via a 4-speed automatic.

It’s a rather tall sedan with higher than usual ground clearance. The front fascia is actually inspired by a Japanese Kabuki mask, which explains its aggressive look. The addition of a boot onto the hatchback’s body results in a very impressive 515 liter boot space, probably the largest in its class. Also first in class is the inclusion of ISOFIX mounting points for child seats on the rear passenger bench and automatic climate control.

The base model comes standard with a bodykit. It features a standard CD player with MP3 capabilities, mated to an 8-speaker audio system with steering wheel audio controls. In addition to the standard ISOFIX points, there are dual SRS airbags in the front.Wheels are 15 inchers with 195/65R15 tyres and brakes are discs at the front and drums at the rear.

The standard version costs RM88,888 OTR without insurance (RM91,437 with insurance). The premium version will cost you RM96,567.50 OTR inclusive of insurance and adds window tinting, a trunk lid spoiler (the rest of the aerokit is standard), door visors and leather seats. Three colours are available - Silky Silver, Azure Grey and Black Pearl.

Grand theft auto? The most stolen vehicles

Detomaso Modena You may be worried that your shiny, brand-new car could be a target for theft, but car thieves find older models are more attractive to steal. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau?s (NICB) statistics, the 1995 Honda Civic is the vehicle most reported stolen for 2007 and only two out of the top 10 vehicles are later models: the 2004 Dodge Ram pickup (# 7) and 2007 Toyota Corolla (#10). The NICB says thieves target older models because they provide valuable replacement parts.

Early data from the FBI Uniform Crime Report (UCR) reveals that motor vehicle theft is headed for an 8.9 percent decrease in 2007, according to NICB analysis.

Here is the list of most stolen vehicles:

1. 1995 Honda Civic
2. 1991 Honda Accord
3. 1989 Toyota Camry
4. 1997 Ford F-150 pickup
5. 1994 Chevrolet C/K 1500 pickup
6. 1994 Acura Integra
7. 2004 Dodge Ram pickup
8. 1994 Nissan Sentra
9. 1988 Toyota pickup
10. 2007 Toyota Corolla

Tips on how to avoid a break in or theft:

  • The easiest thing to do is to lock your car and take your keys with you at all times.
  • Never leave your car running unattended.
  • Keep windows closed when driving and parked.
  • Don?t store valuables or expensive electronic devices in plain sight. If you use a windshield-mounted GPS navigation devices, wipe off the telltale suction cup circle from the glass when not in use.
  • Park in a well-lit or public place. Use a garage if you have one available.
  • Use an alarm or visual warning device. These are common on new cars and may be installed aftermarket on older models.
  • Also standard on many late-model cars, smart keys or a fuel cut-offs system, aka engine immobilizer, can add security. Thieves won?t steal a car they cannot start.
  • VIN etching kits are inexpensive and can help protect vehicle glass from being resold after the car is stolen. You don?t need to pay the dealer several hundred dollars for this service when you buy a new car though.
  • For advanced protection, install a GPS or radio frequency tracking system in your vehicle to help police find it.
  • If you are in the market for a used car, see our used car buying advice for information on shopping for a used car, how to avoid a lemon, and how to inspect a used car.

160hp Abarth 500 Opening Edition revealed

CarScoop have done it again, and released details (and over 40 high res images) of the forthcoming limited edition Opening Edition Fiat 500 Abarth.

    Detomaso Modena

The strictly limited (100 examples) 500 Abarth Opening Edition is fitted with a revised version of the stock 1.4-liter turbo engine that produces 160Hp at 5750 rpm and a maximum torque of 230 Nm at 3000 rpm. Combined with a 5-speed gearbox the Opening Edition can go from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in just 7.4 sec and on to a top speed of 211 km/h (131mph). That compares very favourably to the standard 500 Abarth?s 7.9 sec & 205 km/h.

    Detomaso Modena

Other mechanical upgrades include the adoption of front and rear perforated disc brakes, high performance front brake pads, a special ?powered by BMC? air filter, special low springs and 17″ alloys painted white or titanium complete with 205/40 R16 ZR 17 Pirelli Pzero Nero tires.

    Detomaso Modena

Buyers can choose between two colours (Campovolo grey or pearlised White) while there?s also the option of special stickers including a red chequered flag on the roof (exclusive to the Campovolo Grey shade) that pays homage to the numerous sporting victories of the Abarth brand. Finally, just to make it a tad more special, Fiat delivers the car with a cover bearing a period Abarth 595 design.

Official full details will likely follow very soon, so keep ‘em peeled.
